Season of Change

It is now approaching the holiday season where we reflect on the year past and seek out a direction to move us ahead. We reflect on past events of the year, reconnect with families for the holidays often finding we are stressed and just plain exhausted by the end of the year.

We come face to face with a new year with new opportunities to become more than we are but looking back find we didn't quite make it so we yet again make a New Year's resolution that sets us up for failure. Why? Usually it is because we set our focus and goals in direct conflict with each other or it didn't fit the life you actually live right now! I get it! Been there. Done that!

Before we can move ahead we have to know "Where are we going?" We know where we've been and focus on the past instead of putting the focus on where we are going. Last year I pulled out a sticky note and I wrote down three words "Rebuilding Lives, Inc." which I put on my bathroom mirror and every morning as I brushed my teeth I would say "Rebuilding Lives, Inc. is where I am going." That became my focus. By writing it down, I made it a reality of action that brings me where I am today. It can be an uphill battle of resistance and adversity at times, but when the focus is set on the vision its a lot easier to move away from the quagmire of resistance and adversity. I began by positioning my personal GPS to the three coordinates: Where I am, Where I am going and a fixed point that makes my dream a reality.

Up to that moment I was not feeling confident that this dream of more than 30 years was ever going to happen. I got lost in those three enemy traps that motivational speaker and NFL player Shawn Harper calls division, deception and distraction. I thought I had to be like everyone else. Fit into what the business norms say I was supposed to be as a professional. Yet I always have walked life to a beat of a different drummer and felt I just didn't fit in. I recognized that if I don't pursue the dream with tenacity and fight for my vision it will not be manifested. We will always come up with obstacles to slow us down pursuing our dreams that may very well throw us of course or block our progress. I know this why? I've been there. Done that! This year I have taken a page from the Shawn Harper book (The Winning Edge) "Life is not about success. Its about winning! I recognize that I can dare to be different and apart from everyone else. I am creating and re-creating a place of empowerment where I can improve and know who I am and where my dream can flourish and remain fresh and alive.
